Std 1Home learning September month

This week is all about transition and getting ready for year 1. I have added lots of resources that link to transition and this weeks book. However, the key to this week is to think about this year and what fun we have had although cut short and making sure Mrs Waller has lots of information about you, especially the things you love. Please feel free to complete this any way you want whether it uses the resources or your own creative approach. Please could you send them into us?

Hope this finds you all well and you have had a great fathers day weekend. The rain last week was really very impressive at times, this week looks the opposite, lots of opportunity to enjoy outdoors (although shade might be needed).

A teacher is a good person n agood thinker of society who takes very important responsibility of shaping up the lives of young ones and society and impressionable children. They can get great feeling, pride and true joy in their life by teaching through their students on the right path. They never do any type of partiality between good or bad students and alwys help instead they always try to bring bad one on the right path through their lots of efforts n their strenghth. A good teacher is someone who spent their whole life in giving quality education to their students to give their best effort. They push all the students to do their best effort to goal achive. They make learning process must savevery interesting as well as creative. Teachers try their best to bring all the students on the right track by motivation and more thinkable them positively towards study n education

•Practising key arithmetic skills would be very beneficial for your child. We have been working on adding and subtracting numbers under 50 (e.g. 42+7, 38+11, 46-3, 39-10). You could use apparatus to help (at school we often use dienes which have long sticks to represent 10s (you could do this with pencils or something similar) and small cubes to represent 1s (you could use beads or something similar)). If your child is finding this easy, you could extend it to include numbers to 100.

•Make a Kaboom game to practise key arithmetic skills – this needs some lolly sticks or some paper cut into cards. Write a question on each stick/card, and write the word Kaboom on others. Pick out a card/stick and work out the answer. If you get it right, you get to keep the card/stick. If you pick up a Kaboom, you have to put all of your cards/sticks back! This would be great for practising addition, subtraction or number bonds to 10.

•Practise reading the words on the Year 1 list – you could play games with these e.g. four in a row (draw a grid, write a word in each box, then try to get 4 in a row – you have to say the word before you can put your counter down/colour it in your colour), or you could design a board game where each square has a word on that you have to read when you land there.

Last week time and technology got away from me but I hope to upload some lessons this week for you to follow if you wish. Don't forget the online phonics and to dip into all of the previous learning grids for maths, literacy, phonics and topic. As ever go with the flow for your week and do what works for you
